It developed as an alternative to ballet dance for new dancers who did not want to follow strict ballet instructions and set patterns.

Hip hop is a culture and art movement that began in the Bronx, New York city in the 1970’s. It includes facets like break dancing, graffiti, dj-ing, emceeing, rapping etcetera. The culture emerged from neighborhood block party’s thrown by African American groups that may be described as being a gang, club or music group. Hip hop dancing includes popping, locking, waving, breaking, krumping etcetera.

Freestyle dancing is an expression of the self through the movement where the music guides you into a series of movement which naturally flow with music is the initiator. There is no construction of steps, no choreography, just the dancer, the music and the space. It uses inspiration of all dance forms mentioned above and more.
